English Afternoon Tea

Created by the Duchess of Bedford in 1830 to quell mid-afternoon hunger, Afternoon Tea became firmly established as a British tradition in the Victorian era. A light meal of tea (usually Darjeeling or Ceylon), sandwiches or cakes was the perfect balance. The duchess found that having an afternoon snack was so perfect that she soon began inviting her friends to join her. Afternoon Tea quickly became an established and enjoyable meal in many homes.

Guests can have Afternoon Tea in the dining room, porch or garden at 4:00 PM. A fine English tradition of sandwiches, cakes and tea, all served on the most beautiful crockery from the 1930s with melodious vintage music in the background to help set the scene. If you’re celebrating something special, why not opt for Champagne Afternoon Tea?
